Valto Pernu Photo Marathon
8-10 August 2019

12 hours, 6 assignments, grand prize 1000€

Valto Pernu Photo Marathon is a relaxed, open-for-all photography event combining art and documentary photography. The fourth annual Photo Marathon will take place on 25-26 August 2017.

The event is named after Valto Pernu (1909-1986), a photographer from the Ii Municipality known as the last travelling photographer in Finland. The contestants spend 12 hours taking photos of Ii Municipality according to the assignments from the jury. Like their role model Valto Pernu, they move around on bicycles. The assignments are handed out one at the time, and after each assignment the photos are delivered to the jury.

This years jury consists of press photographer Touko Hujanen, the event’s artistic director Antti J. Leinonen, and Karoliina Paatos who won the best photo essay award in the Finnish press photos 2016 competition.

Photo Marathons grand prize, 1000€, will be awarded to the photographer with the best six photo series. There are also additional award categories, including the audience’s favourite photo series.

Valto Pernu Photo Marathon is supported by Valto Pernu foundation and Ii Municipality.
